My sculptures whose lines and gesture imply action, the connections between elements hinting to the viewer, it’s ability to move. However, when one is in motion, it is more difficult at first to recognize that the sculpture itself is moving, traveling through space and time with the viewer. This surprise, the unexpected awakening of massive and graceful forms in steel and stone creates an ever-changing dialogue and physical interaction with the viewer.

My sculpture is a direct expression of the materials iron and stone. Heating the iron to red hot and forging it using large industrial hammers, imparts power and force. Stone carving is also an action of force delivered by means of a hammer. The process is captured in the material. The mark making on both materials is raw and expressive. Iron is forged into fluid and graceful structures that contrast and creates a conversation with the more static and massive stone elements.

By working with individuals or a community and integrating loosely narrative elements, my sculpture has the ability to open a dialogue that crosses cultural and socioeconomic boundaries, and speak to the uniqueness of its environment.
